WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE MALDIVES.

But before you head there, you need to have the following in mind:

  • It is made up of 1,200 islands. just like a country is made up of states, the same is applicable to the Maldives. The Maldives is a collection of islands located in the Indian Ocean. Its capital is Male, which houses the Velana International Airport. Some of these islands are occupied by citizens of the Maldives while the other islands are used for resorts. Hence why it is known as the 9th smallest country in the world. Male is also the destination point for most tourists coming into the Maldives for their vacation.
  • It is just 1 hour away from Sri Lanka by plane. There are flights that leave for Colombo international airport three times a week. if you have been planning to have a look around in Sri Lanka, this is the best time.
  • You don't need a Visa. Maldives is a country that operates visa-on-arrival for its tourists. But you can be sent back to your country at the immigration point because one of the requirements for entering Maldives is a return ticket.
  • Alcohol is not allowed in Maldives. If you are staying on any local inhabited island, you need to make sure you leave your beer, and alcohol at the immigration and take it while returning back to your home country. This is because Maldives is a Muslim country. But you can get alcohol at private resorts at a limit.
  • Islam is the official religion of the Maldives. You may be wondering why this piece of information is important but it is very important. This is because if you know this, it can guide your actions around the locals and what you say to them, what you wear, or too much public display of affection, and bikinis except you are on a private beach.
  • Peak season is from early December to March. so if you are someone who wants to travel to the Maldives on a budget, it is advisable to avoid these periods because it tends to be more expensive. And this is because it is the dry season and you can't enjoy the beach life during raining season.
  • Get used to ''island time'' in maldives. just like some states in a country are hours ahead of other states, the same applies to the Maldives. So know the island time in Maldives and get used to it, that way you enjoy your sunlight and other events.
  • Getting a hotel can be tiring. This is because you are not only limited to the $1000 per night rooms but to other ones that can suit your budget. you can decide to choose a beach villa or an overwater villa. if you are spending a few days, find a suitable place close to the airport but if you have enough time you can find any place of your choice.
  • Internet connectivity in the Maldives is superb. so you don't have to worry about business or family because, with the strong connection there, you can get work done and even check up on your family.
